Binance-Linked Transfer Triggers 347 Million LUNC Burn

Binance-Linked Transfer Triggers 347 Million LUNC Burn, Pushing All-Time Total Past 462 Billion
On October 23, 2026, a large transfer of approximately 28.9 billion Terra Classic (LUNC) tokens from a Binance-associated wallet triggered the burn of 347,037,694 LUNC. The move contributed the bulk of a daily network burn that reached roughly 429 million LUNC, according to community trackers including LUNC Metrics and LuncDaily.
The transaction moved 28,919,807,827 LUNC from a Binance-linked address. On-chain records show the associated burn of 347 million LUNC, representing about 81% of the day’s total. Additional amounts were directed to liquidity and community pools, bringing the broader contribution from the activity to around 434 million tokens in one transaction window.
This single-day figure stands out against recent averages. LUNC Metrics recorded the 347 million burn as a chain-fee event at approximately 08:46 UTC on October 23. Daily burns earlier in October had often stayed well below 100 million outside of Binance’s monthly fee burns, making the October 23 spike one of the larger non-monthly events of the period.
Cumulative burns and Binance’s role
All-time LUNC burns now exceed 462 billion tokens. Binance accounts for roughly 88–91 billion of that total (about 19–20% of all tracked burns), primarily through its long-running practice of burning a portion of LUNC trading fees. The exchange’s most recent scheduled monthly burn earlier in October removed about 335 million LUNC. The October 23 activity appears separate from that regular fee-based program and stems from on-chain movement involving a Binance wallet.
Terra Classic continues to operate with a 1.5% on-chain transfer tax (raised from 0.5% in August 2026), of which 1.2% is burned. Circulating supply remains in the range of roughly 5.5 trillion LUNC out of a total supply near 6.45 trillion, so even multi-hundred-million daily burns represent a small fraction of outstanding tokens.
Market reaction and community response
LUNC traded near $0.0000457–$0.000046 on October 23, up roughly 1.7–2.7% over 24 hours in some snapshots, with a market capitalization in the $250–310 million range depending on the data provider. The price reaction was modest relative to the burn size, consistent with prior large burns that have produced limited immediate price impact given the token’s still-enormous supply.
Community members on X highlighted the burn with messages of resilience such as “We will rise again” and references to longer-term price targets. Some posts framed the Binance wallet movement as a notable whale event. Binance has maintained its monthly LUNC fee-burn program since the 2022 Terra collapse, remaining the second-largest historical burner after Terraform Labs.
Outlook
The October 23 burn adds to ongoing deflationary pressure from the on-chain tax and exchange fee contributions. However, with trillions of tokens still in circulation, sustained higher daily burn rates would require a meaningful increase in on-chain transaction activity. Binance’s continued participation remains a significant factor in total burns, even as the broader market has shown limited sensitivity to individual burn events of this magnitude.

Bitcoin Slides Below $81,500 as Tech Sell-Off and Elevated Oil Prices Hit Risk Assets

Bitcoin fell sharply on October 22, 2026, trading near $81,300–$81,600 with a market capitalization of roughly $1.63–$1.64 trillion after dropping more than 3% in 24 hours. Ethereum declined to the $2,370–$2,400 range (market cap near $291 billion), while the broader crypto market shed around 2–3%. The move followed a brief push toward the mid-$84,000s earlier in the week that failed to hold.
The decline tracked weakness in equities. The Nasdaq Composite closed down approximately 2.6% on Thursday—its steepest one-day drop since June—amid renewed concerns over AI capital spending and mixed results from Tesla and Meta. Meta shares fell nearly 7% after the company raised its spending outlook and announced plans involving non-voting shares to fund AI initiatives, while Tesla also declined. The sell-off extended into Asian markets. Brent crude held above $111–$113 amid geopolitical supply risks linked to Middle East tensions, including attacks that heightened fears of disruption and limited room for easier monetary policy.
Liquidations totaled hundreds of millions of dollars, predominantly long positions. Reports ranged from roughly $383 million to over $450 million across major venues in the 24-hour window, with Binance accounting for a large share and the biggest single liquidation exceeding $11 million on a Bitcoin long. Bitcoin briefly tested levels near or below $81,000 after the failed breakout attempt.
Outlook: Macro headwinds remain the dominant driver. Sustained oil strength and equity volatility continue to pressure crypto’s correlation with risk assets. Support near the low-$80,000s is being watched closely after the rejection from the mid-$84,000s. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs also saw notable outflows on October 22 (around $635 million in one dataset), reversing prior inflows and adding to short-term institutional demand softness. Further moves in tech stocks, oil, and upcoming U.S. data or Fed signals will likely set the near-term tone.
