Robinhood Puts Hedge-Fund Tools in the App as Macro Turns Softer

Published

on

Robinhood used HOOD Summit in Houston to do what the brokerage has been signaling all year: stop being only a stock app and start being the terminal.

The lineup landed on the same tape Paul Barron’s September 30 recap framed as a risk-on setup. Core PCE did not force the Federal Reserve into another hike, rate-hike odds eased, and the Treasury was back buying its own debt — the same kind of liquidity pulse that helped crypto on August 19. Chairman and CEO Vlad Tenev ran the keynote. On stage across the two days were chief brokerage officer Steve Quirk, chief financial officer Shiv Verma, chief investment officer Steph Guild, and VP of product Abhishek Fatehpuria, the product lead quoted on the “more assets, then more hours” plan.

Agents, inside the app

The headline product is Robinhood Agents. In May the firm opened a connector so outside agents could trade through Robinhood. More than 150,000 customers opened agentic accounts, and agents were calling Robinhood tools nearly 30 million times a day. Summit moved that from a developer hook into the consumer app.

A user names an agent, opens a dedicated account, and picks a model, including OpenAI. GPT-Luna usage is free through year-end. The agent can research, build a watchlist, and trade stocks, options, and crypto — only with money in that separate account. A coming feature, Loops, is standing instructions: monitor a condition, act when it hits, including outside the cash session. Tenev’s line, on Bloomberg and in the newsroom post, is the same: plug frontier models into an account that can already trade almost anything, with limits the user sets.

Agent Apps is the data layer. Robinhood is opening a marketplace so outside shops sell feeds into the agent — options flow (Unusual Whales), on-chain fundamentals (Token Terminal), and satellite imagery (SkyFi: plant lots, fulfillment yards, data-center buildouts, theme-park parking). That is the “hedge fund in a pocket” pitch. It is also a new fee surface. The agent cannot see the whole brokerage balance by default. That is the safeguard the firm keeps repeating, because an agent that trades while the user sleeps is how these products blow up.

Hours, leverage, and a new contract

The rest of the slate is market structure.

  • Perpetual futures for eligible U.S. customers on select crypto, including bitcoin and ether, with up to 10x on BTC and ETH, cleared through Robinhood Derivatives and Bitstamp. Eight coins were cited in coverage. This is the onshore answer to the perp volume that still lives offshore.
  • Weekend equities. The 24 Hour Market already runs Sunday 8 p.m. ET to Friday 8 p.m. ET. The missing piece is Saturday and Sunday, via the Bruce ATS, targeted for early next year and still pending approval.
  • Earnings contracts on Cboe: yes/no style bets on whether a company hits a revenue or EPS figure.
  • Bracket orders (take-profit / stop-loss) rolling out now. Intraday buying power up to 4x, later. Robinhood Social — follow trades, not just influencers — opening to eligible accounts.

Tenev told Fox the summit dropped about 16 new capabilities. The help-center list splits them: Social, Agents, brackets, and perps now; 24/7 equities and Legend agent tools later.

Why it matters on this tape

Barron’s segment put the announcements next to a softer Fed path and a Treasury buyback. That is the trade Robinhood wants. Active users who already live in the app get perps, weekend stocks, and an agent that does not log off at 4 p.m. If hike odds keep falling, the product launch rides a bid. If PCE or payrolls reverse the story, the same leverage and the same Loops are how retail gets hurt faster.

Robinhood Chain, the Arbitrum Orbit network that went live July 1, is the other half of the year — licensing fees back to the Arbitrum DAO, DEX volume in the billions, on-chain equity experiments. Summit barely needed it. The equity story this week is the brokerage becoming an execution venue for models, not a chart with a buy button.

The risk is the slogan. “Hedge-fund tools” still means the user eats the loss. An agent funded from a ring-fenced account, a 10x perp, and a weekend stock print are three different ways to be wrong. Robinhood is betting the active-trader cohort wants all three in one login. The macro tape, for a few sessions at least, is not arguing.

TOKEN2049 Opens in Singapore Next Week as the City Leads Regional Crypto Flow

Published

on

TOKEN2049 runs October 7–8 at Marina Bay Sands. Organisers expect more than 25,000 people, from more than 7,000 companies and about 160 countries, with 300-plus speakers and 500-plus exhibitors. More than 60% of the floor is billed as C-level. The conference takes all five floors of the complex. A private institutional gathering on October 8 is capped at about 200 senior leaders, by approval.

The timing is the point. Chainalysis, in the year to June, put Singapore at $284 billion in crypto activity, up 55.4%, and back at the top of Central and Southeast Asia and Oceania while the region contracted 6.8%. Most of that jump was institutional-platform flow, up 94% to $60 billion, sitting with market makers, OTC desks and brokerages. TOKEN2049 is landing in the city that already routes that book. Co-founder Alex Fiskum said the Dubai edition has moved to 2027, so this year’s focus is Singapore. More than 70% of the exhibition floor was already taken when that was said.

The speaker list matches the split. Shayne Coplan of Polymarket, Jeff Yan of Hyperliquid, Balaji Srinivasan, Richard Teng of Binance and Joseph Lubin of Consensys sit next to Adena Friedman of Nasdaq, Jenny Johnson of Franklin Templeton and names from BlackRock, JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley, the NYSE and CME. Eric Trump is on the card for World Liberty Financial. The side calendar is the rest of the week: Digital Asset Summit Asia, Sui Basecamp, the Network State Conference, the Milken Institute Asia Summit, Forbes Global CEO, plus the Singapore Grand Prix. Origins, a 36-hour hackathon, and the NEXUS startup competition run with the main event.

Bitcoin was back near $86,000 early on October 2, up about 3% on the day in several prints, with ether near $2,750. Total crypto market capitalization was around $2.89 trillion in the early read and closer to $2.94 trillion in later CoinMarketCap snapshots, after a short squeeze and a return of spot-bitcoin ETF inflows. Dominance sat near 59%. That is a bounce off the mid-$83,000s, not a new high. The October 2025 peak was about $126,000.

A conference does not move the peg. What it does is put the institutional pipe and the retail app in the same building for two days, in the jurisdiction that just reclaimed the regional activity lead. The announcements that matter will be the ones that survive the flight home.
