Arbitrum Rallies on Stablecoin Growth Program as DeFi Tokens Outperform

Published

on

Arbitrum (ARB) led major altcoin gains on October 19, 2026, rising 6–9% toward the $0.20 level, driven by the Arbitrum Foundation’s Stablecoin Growth Program announced earlier in the week. The program sets aside 2 million ARB for the first 10 teams that achieve a 30-day average of $10 million in USDG (Paxos Global Dollar) TVL on Arbitrum, with rewards of up to 200,000 ARB each. Eligible protocols must hold at least $1 million in stablecoin balances and commit to making USDG their primary stablecoin on the network, with additional performance-based incentives and ecosystem support available.

The initiative has already lifted ARB roughly 16% since the October 15 announcement in some measurements, with the token trading near $0.196–$0.20 during the October 19 session. Broader DeFi tokens advanced as the sector recovered from prior regulatory and yield pressures. The CoinDesk DeFi index and related names such as Uniswap (up around 3%), Lido, and Ethena posted solid gains, outperforming Bitcoin and supporting the CoinDesk 80’s outperformance of the top-5 index. All six members of the DeFi sector index finished higher on the day.

The move coincided with improved risk sentiment from stronger-than-expected Chinese GDP data and rebounding Nasdaq futures, which lifted crypto markets more broadly. Arbitrum’s program is designed to accelerate stablecoin adoption and TVL growth on the Layer-2 network, with the 2 million ARB prize pool remaining available through the end of 2027. Official terms require accepted teams to meet onboarding conditions, and each participant can receive the balance grant only once.

The rally underscores how targeted incentive programs can drive short-term price action and attention in Layer-2 ecosystems, particularly when tied to concrete TVL milestones in growing stablecoin segments. ARB’s gains stood out even as Bitcoin’s advance remained more modest during the session.

Mt. Gox Extends Creditor Repayment Deadline to October 2027

Published

on

The rehabilitation trustee for the collapsed Mt. Gox exchange pushed the creditor repayment deadline to October 31, 2027, with Tokyo court approval. A notice dated October 16 from trustee Nobuaki Kobayashi extended the previous October 31, 2026 deadline by one year. Many creditors have still not completed the required procedures, while others have encountered processing issues that prevented payments.

Base repayments, early lump-sum repayments, and intermediate repayments have largely been completed for eligible creditors who finished the necessary steps and experienced no problems. The extension covers these three repayment categories under the rehabilitation plan. This is the fourth annual one-year extension since the original 2023 deadline. Repayments began in July 2024 through intermediaries including Kraken, Bitstamp, and BitGo, with more than 19,500 creditors reported as having received distributions by March 2025.

Wallets linked to the estate continue to hold approximately 34,388 BTC (roughly $2.8 billion at current prices), according to blockchain analytics data. The remaining balance has been relatively stable in recent months, with no major transfers reported since June. Analysts view the outstanding supply as limited relative to today’s Bitcoin liquidity and trading volumes, and no longer a major market overhang compared with earlier stages of the process when larger amounts were still pending.

The original rehabilitation plan covered roughly 142,000 BTC, 143,000 BCH, and ¥69 billion in cash. The latest delay provides additional time to complete remaining distributions where practicable, further postponing any potential incremental supply from the estate.
