Base Layer-2 Surpasses $5 Billion TVL in First Week After OP Stack v2 Integration

Published

on

Base, Coinbase’s Ethereum Layer-2 network, has achieved a major growth milestone by surpassing $5 billion in total value locked (TVL) within just seven days of integrating Optimism’s OP Stack v2.

The rapid increase in TVL demonstrates strong ecosystem momentum following the upgrade, which introduced powerful new features for developers and users alike.

Key Drivers of Growth

The surge was primarily fueled by two major enhancements from OP Stack v2:

  • New hooks for automated market makers (AMMs): These allow more sophisticated and capital-efficient liquidity provision, enabling better pricing, reduced slippage, and advanced trading strategies on decentralized exchanges built on Base.
  • Native account abstraction: This improves user experience by supporting smart contract wallets, gasless transactions, and seamless onboarding — making the network significantly more accessible to both new and experienced users.

As a result, daily active users on Base climbed 62% to reach 1.8 million in the past week, reflecting higher engagement across DeFi, social, and consumer applications.

Significance for Base

Reaching $5 billion TVL in only one week after the upgrade underscores Base’s position as one of the fastest-growing Layer-2 solutions in the Ethereum ecosystem. The network continues to benefit from Coinbase’s strong distribution, deep USDC integration, and user-friendly infrastructure.

The successful OP Stack v2 integration has clearly attracted both liquidity providers and end users, creating a positive feedback loop of increasing TVL, higher activity, and improved liquidity.

Outlook

With TVL now firmly above the $5 billion mark and daily active users approaching 2 million, Base is well-positioned for continued expansion. Developers are expected to roll out more sophisticated applications leveraging the new AMM hooks and account abstraction capabilities.

Analysts anticipate further TVL growth in the coming weeks as additional protocols migrate or expand on Base and as more users discover the benefits of lower fees and enhanced functionality.

This milestone reinforces Coinbase’s strategy of building scalable, accessible blockchain infrastructure and highlights the growing competitiveness of OP Stack-based Layer-2 networks in the multi-chain landscape.

Base’s rapid ascent past $5 billion TVL signals strong market confidence in the network’s upgraded technology and its potential to become a leading hub for on-chain activity in 2026.

Bitcoin Slides Below $78,000 as Risk-Off Sentiment Intensifies

Published

on

Bitcoin fell below $78,000 on October 30, 2026, as confirmation of the Binance security incident accelerated a broader risk-off move across crypto markets.

On CoinMarketCap, Bitcoin traded at $78,430 with a market capitalization of approximately $1.57 trillion, down roughly 2% over the prior 24 hours and more sharply from earlier levels near $81,000–$82,000. The decline pushed BTC to its weakest levels in more than a month, with some reports showing brief tests of the mid-$76,000s during the sharpest phase of the sell-off.

The drop intensified after Binance disclosed the estimated $6.3 billion hot-wallet breach late on October 29. Leveraged liquidations amplified the move, with figures ranging from hundreds of millions to more than $1 billion in 24-hour windows depending on the snapshot and venue. Broader risk aversion linked to technology-stock weakness and a hawkish tone from the Federal Reserve added to the pressure.

Bitcoin dominance remained elevated, indicating that capital was rotating out of higher-beta assets rather than exiting the crypto market entirely. Analysts highlighted key support clusters in the $77,000–$79,000 range, while resistance stayed firm above $81,000–$85,000. The incident’s market impact is still unfolding as investigations continue and further details on frozen assets and potential recoveries emerge.
