Hyperliquid Permanently Burns Nearly 5% of Maximum HYPE Supply Amid Broader Token Burn Trends

Published

on

Hyperliquid has permanently burned 49.87 million HYPE tokens, representing 4.99% of the token’s 1 billion maximum supply and valued at approximately $3.89 billion at prevailing prices, according to Onchain Lens monitoring data reported on October 29. In the prior 24 hours, the protocol burned roughly 19,700 HYPE (about $1.59 million) against estimated fees of $1.69 million. Cumulative historical protocol revenue stands near $1.38 billion.

The burns are executed through an automated buyback mechanism funded by trading fees on the perpetuals decentralized exchange. The reduction in circulating supply is viewed as a structural support for token value amid ongoing competition in the on-chain derivatives market. HYPE traded near $80–$90 in late October (with recent snapshots showing market capitalization around $20–$22 billion), supported by strong trading activity.

Token burns remain a core supply-management tool across major blockchains. On Terra Classic, community trackers show total LUNC burned exceeding 462 billion tokens. Binance continues its monthly fee-based burns, with recent contributions (including a large transfer around October 23 that helped destroy roughly 347 million LUNC) pushing the exchange’s cumulative total near 88–91 billion tokens. On-chain tax burns from the 1.5% transfer tax also continue, though the overall circulating supply remains in the trillions.

BNB Chain completed its 37th quarterly Auto-Burn on October 19, permanently removing 1,646,196.44 BNB valued at about $1.197 billion. The remaining total supply stands near 131.5 million BNB, advancing the long-term target of reducing supply to 100 million through the automated mechanism based on price and network activity.

On Ethereum, EIP-1559 continues to burn the base fee portion of transaction costs. Recent data shows burns lagging well behind issuance: in one late-October 24-hour window, roughly 16 ETH was burned against nearly 3,000 ETH issued, while year-to-date fee burns through early October offset only about 2% of gross issuance. Cumulative burns since the 2021 London upgrade exceed 4.6 million ETH, but low network fees currently keep the mechanism from producing net deflationary pressure.

These mechanisms illustrate different approaches to supply reduction—fee-funded buybacks on Hyperliquid, exchange and tax burns on LUNC, scheduled quarterly reductions on BNB, and activity-dependent fee burns on Ethereum—each shaped by protocol design, trading volume, and market conditions.

Bitcoin Slides Below $78,000 as Risk-Off Sentiment Intensifies

Published

on

Bitcoin fell below $78,000 on October 30, 2026, as confirmation of the Binance security incident accelerated a broader risk-off move across crypto markets.

On CoinMarketCap, Bitcoin traded at $78,430 with a market capitalization of approximately $1.57 trillion, down roughly 2% over the prior 24 hours and more sharply from earlier levels near $81,000–$82,000. The decline pushed BTC to its weakest levels in more than a month, with some reports showing brief tests of the mid-$76,000s during the sharpest phase of the sell-off.

The drop intensified after Binance disclosed the estimated $6.3 billion hot-wallet breach late on October 29. Leveraged liquidations amplified the move, with figures ranging from hundreds of millions to more than $1 billion in 24-hour windows depending on the snapshot and venue. Broader risk aversion linked to technology-stock weakness and a hawkish tone from the Federal Reserve added to the pressure.

Bitcoin dominance remained elevated, indicating that capital was rotating out of higher-beta assets rather than exiting the crypto market entirely. Analysts highlighted key support clusters in the $77,000–$79,000 range, while resistance stayed firm above $81,000–$85,000. The incident’s market impact is still unfolding as investigations continue and further details on frozen assets and potential recoveries emerge.
